ULISSE MAXI for the Brasilian motorway traffic monitoring

VIDEOTEC, European producer of CCTV systems, BOSCH Brazil (www.bosch.com.br) distributor of security products and ENGEBRAS (www.engebras.com.br) an installation company specialising in traffic control and safety solutions, have collaborated to supply a video surveillance system for a section of the Brazilian motorways.
REQUEST:
This important motorway carries the name Ayrton Senna/Carvalho Pinto and is the main connection node between the city of São Paulo and the surrounding districts. The Contractor wanted to supply a cutting-edge scalable system to monitor traffic on a section of the motorway, including car number plate recognition. Bosch LTC0495 cameras were selected using 34X Computar motorised zoom lenses.
SOLUTION:
The ULISSE MAXI integrated positioning unit from Videotec proved to be the ideal solution for this type of motorway surveillance. The cameras and motorised lenses were easily installed into the spacious Ulisse Maxi housing. The Pan rotation is continuous at a variable speed of up to 20°/s, while the tilt varies from +45° to -20° at a max speed of 20°/s. The unit controls the autopan and patrol functions with a preset accuracy of 0.02°. The PTZ units were installed on extremely high poles to ensure 360° surveillance of the critical area. Low maintenance requirements were an essential feature of the system, as the Pan & Tilt units were installed in an area with limited access. Each ULISSE MAXI unit was fitted with a wiper to clean the glass and a water tank with a high pressure pump. Moreover, the PTZ units use sensors to send feedback on the position of both rotating axis to guarantee constant and accurate control over the position whatever the conditions. The units are fitted with a heating thermostat to guarantee optimal images in all operating temperatures. Videotec has developed several competitive solutions for demanding traffic monitoring applications, that are already in use in Europe, Asia and North America. Similar to the MAXI, but with a faster rotation speed, the new ULISSE PLUS is designed for minimal maintenance, offers enhanced resistance to operation-induced stress and is integrable with many different cameras and motorized zoom lens combinations. These all-in-one cable managed PTZ units extend the limit of traditional speed domes into a superb camera system and perfectly track objects no matter the speed, distance or light conditions.
